Support Child Treatment in The Private Sector:
This program aims to support the families of children with cancer to afford the costs of the expensive treatment in private medical centers. It is based on the parents’ decision to treat their children in private medical centers in Syria or in other specialized centers outside Syria without being referred by BASMA Association. As a part of the program, BASMA provides a large part of the costs of the treatment for the children with cancer. This program has started in 2007 with an average of 23 cases yearly, but the annual cases received has been increasing due to higher awareness about cancer and better treatment opportunities available. Indeed, several centers inside Syria, such as BASMA pediatric Oncology Unit and The Children’s Unit at Al-Beirouni Hospital were available as well as the transfer from other governates to Damascus due to the quality of services that BASMA offers.
There is still a demand for specific types of treatment in the private medical centers inside Syria, such as tumor surgeries, tumor joints, artificial eye implants, and bone marrow transplant. There are still many surgeries that are hard to be performed at public hospitals according to the doctors
38 new cases were registered in this program in 2023, bringing the number of the children enrolled in this program to 696 as of 31/12/2023, with a total cost of 397,268,527 SYP this year.
